Will Sharpe, who is best known for playing the role of Ethan Spiller in season two of The White Lotus, is set to direct the feature film adaptation of Michelle Zauner's 2021 memoir Crying in H Mart.

Billed as a musical, the film has a script from Michelle Zauner, who will also play a prominent role. The yet-to-be-titled film is bankrolled by Stacey Sher, along with Jason Kim.

The film's official synopsis read as Crying in H Mart is a "coming-of-age story about a half-Korean daughter who returns to small-town Oregon to care for her Korean mother. Critical and smothering Chong-mi and creative and independent Michelle struggle to understand each other across a cultural fault line, only learning to see and accept one another through the formative power of music and the vibrant flavours of Korean cooking."

Besides starring in White Lotus, Will Sharpe recently co-wrote and directed Landscapers starring Olivia Colman and David Thewlis. His other directorial credits include The Electrical Life of Louis Wain, Black Pond, The Darkest Universe and Cockroach.
