Thalaivi Trailer is here: Kangana Ranaut as Jayalalithaa fights against patriarchy

CE Features

The most-awaited Thalaivi trailer starring Kangana Ranaut as Jayalalithaa has dropped and it traces almost all the major events in the actor-politicians life. Right from her entry into the film industry as a naive teenager to her rise as a supreme political leader.

Defying the trolls that took a dig at Thalaivi, during the time of its first look poster release, Kangana looks convincing as Jayalalithaa. Arvind Swami, on the other hand, looks unrecognisable and extremely similar to the super star-politician MG Ramachandran.

The makers have cleverly made two different versions of the trailer for the Hindi and Tamil audience. While the Tamil version majorly focuses on the motherly leader image of Jayalalithaa, the Hindi doesn't shy away from hinting at her traits as the iron-fisted party leader.

The molestation and disrobing of Jayalalithaa during the assembly and MGR's funeral hold a major part in the trailer, just like it was in the leader's life. Jayalalithaa's comparison of her disrobing to Draupathi's in Mahabharatham is also highlighted in the Vijay directorial.

Also starring, Samuthirakani as RM Veerappan, Poorna as Sasikala, Madhoo as Janaki MGR, the film has been written by Vijayendra Prasad, with Tamil and Hindi dialogues penned by Madhan Karky and Rajat Aroraa, respectively.

With music by GV Prakash, Thalaivi will hit the screens on April 23.
