Angrezi Medium trailer out: Irrfan Khan returns as a large-hearted father tackling a brutal system

CE Features

The film is a spin-off of Hindi Medium, the breakout 2017 hit that revealed the faultlines in the Indian education system. In the new film, the setting has changed from Delhi to Rajasthan and London. Lead actor Irrfan Khan returns as a homespun, large-hearted father trying his best to avail the best possible education for his daughter.

Radhika Madan, who was last seen in Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota, plays his grown-up daughter who wants to move to London for higher studies. The trailer follows the adventures of Irrfan’s character and his close friend (Deepak Dobriyal) as they strive to fulfill her wish.

Topics of social mobility, exorbitant student fees, and the spiralling cost of foreign education are addressed in the fun-filled but affecting trailer.

Kareena Kapoor Khan joins the franchise as a female cop. Her character, as revealed by producer Dinesh Vijan, will be a part of future instalments.

In a recent video, Irrfan shared that he has finished shooting for the film but will not be able to promote it due to his ailing health. The actor was diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour in early 2018. He sought cancer treatment for a year in London before returning to India last year.

Angrezi Medium also stars Dimple Kapadia, Pankaj Tripathi, Deepak Dobriyal, Ranvir Shorey and others. The film is set for release on March 20.
