The trailer for Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl is out. Directed by Sharan Sharma, the biopic stars Janhvi Kapoor as the real-life aviator who became one of India’s first female combat pilots to enter a war zone.

The trailer charts Gunjan’s journey from an aspiring pilot to facing institutional rejection at military school. Her father, played by Pankaj Tripathi, is supportive of her dreams, telling her to seal her fortune with hard work. Angad Bedi plays Gunjan’s elder brother, a fellow soldier who later joins her in the 1999 Kargil War. The cast also features Manav Vij and Viineet Kumar.

Gunjan Saxena is produced by Dharma Productions. The war-drama was filmed in Lucknow and Georgia. Having skipped its theatrical release, the film will arrive on Netflix on August 12 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Janhvi Kapoor had made her Bollywood debut in Dhadak (2018), followed by an appearance in Zoya Akhtar’s segment in Ghost Stories. Her upcoming releases are Roohi Afzana and Dostana 2. She will also be seen in the coming-of-age drama Bombay Girl.
