Three years after Mohenjo Daro, director Ashutosh Gowariker is back with another historical epic. His new film, Panipat, is a recreation of the historic Third Battle of Panipat fought between the Marathas and Afghans. The period drama is led by Arjun Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Sanjay Dutt. Also present in the cast are actors Padmini Kolhapure, Mohnish Bahl, and Zeenat Aman. 

The trailer of Panipat was released online today. The big-budget film boasts majestic sets, expansive war sequences, and a patriotic storyline, as Maratha warrior Sadashiv Rao Bhau (Arjun Kapoor) guards his motherland against the invading Ahmad Shah Abdali (Sanjay Dutt). 

Speaking about the film, producer Sunita Gowariker says, “Our film Panipat will bring alive the great glory of Marathas and will showcase not just the epic battle in which more than a lakh soldiers were martyred, but also the reasons behind the war. It is an epic tale of great historical significance.”

Panipat is set for release on December 6. The film’s music is composed by Ajay-Atul with lyrics by Javed Akhtar.
