Actor Nani has once again shown his stamina at the box office with his latest film, The Paradise, which was released on Thursday. From film to film, the actor has been delivering strong numbers on the opening day, and The Paradise has now recorded the biggest opening of his career.
Despite the negative talk surrounding the film after its release, The Paradise registered a massive ₹54.90 crore gross in India. The film collected a net of ₹34.65 crore from 9,732 shows. In overseas markets, it collected ₹20 crore gross. With this, the film’s worldwide gross on Day 1 stands at ₹74.90 crore.
This is the highest opening for a Nani-starrer and marks a career-best for the actor. Considering the mixed response to the film, the opening numbers have come as a surprise. The Paradise is directed by Srikanth Odela, with Kayadu Lohar playing the female lead.
Cherukuri Sudhakar is the producer, while the film’s budget is reportedly more than ₹200 crore. The pre-release business was also said to be the best in Nani’s career, and now all eyes are on the weekend collections and how the film performs at the box office.
In Telangana, Friday is a holiday due to Ganesh Visarjan, which could help the film maintain strong collections. Trade analysts are also expecting the holiday to benefit The Paradise at the box office.
The film was released on Thursday, while the makers screened paid premieres in selected cities on Wednesday night. Through the premieres, the film collected a net of ₹11.60 crore across 900 shows. Including the premieres, the film’s total India net collections stand at ₹46.25 crore so far, according to Sacnilk. The collections include ₹2.25 crore net from the Hindi version, ₹1.10 crore net from Tamil and ₹31.30 crore net from Telugu.
The story revolves around a tribe called the Savaris, who have settled in a place called Paradise but do not receive recognition from the local government. A rich landlord, Shikanja Malik, played by Mohan Babu, controls the place and brutally kills anyone who revolts against him. Jadal, played by Nani, represents the Savari tribe and leads the fight against Malik.
Sonali Kulkarni plays Nani’s mother, while Bollywood actor Raghav Juyal plays Vikram Malik. Keerthy Suresh appears in a special song, while Anirudh Ravichander is the music composer.
The film took a long time to complete, and the makers announced several release dates before finally bringing it to theatres on September 24. Netflix has acquired the OTT rights to The Paradise.
