The trailer of the Sree Vishnu and Mahima Nambiar-starrer Comrade Kalyan is out now. It is packed with romance, comedy and emotion, while also bringing a revolutionary backdrop into the story. Directed by Janakiram Marella and presented by Kona Venkat, the film is produced by Venkata Krishna Karnati and Seetha Karnati under Skanda Vahana Motion Pictures LLP. The film is set to hit the screens on October 9.
Kalyan, played by Sree Vishnu, owns a local theatre, while his mother (Radikaa Sarathkumar) is a die-hard fan of Nandamuri Balakrishna. His otherwise simple and cheerful life takes an interesting turn when he falls in love with an Odisha girl. However, the language barrier becomes a major hurdle in their relationship.
The biggest twist comes when the police start hunting for Kalyan, who is revealed to be a most-wanted Naxalite. In a daring move, Kalyan and his gang kidnap a powerful politician, demanding the release of their Naxalite comrades from prison. This unexpected turn gives the story a serious and intriguing dimension, especially against the otherwise light-hearted setup.
Set against the Andhra-Odisha border in 1992, the film blends humour, romance and the conflict between the Naxalites and the police. Mahima Nambiar looks fresh in her Telugu debut as an Odisha girl. Satya, Sudarshan and the rest of the gang provide the comic relief, while Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko plays a police officer from Kerala.
Sai Sriram is the cinematographer, while Vijay Bulganin has composed the music and Chota K Prasad is the editor.
