The film Okkadu changed Mahesh Babu’s career and became one of the biggest blockbusters in Telugu cinema when it was released in 2003. Directed by Gunasekhar and produced by MS Raju under the Sumanth Art Productions banner, the film features Bhumika Chawla as the female lead. The huge Charminar set created for the film became one of its major highlights.
Nearly 23 years later, the iconic film is all set to return to theatres in the 4K format across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and other parts of India. Considered one of the landmark films in Mahesh Babu’s career, Okkadu created a massive impact at the box office and earned a special place in Telugu cinema history.
Apart from the Charminar set, the film’s connection with the famous Kurnool Kondareddy Buruju remains unforgettable for movie lovers. Presented by Radha Madhavi Film Distributors, the film will be re-released worldwide on June 26 by Ramakrishna.
Also part of the cast is Prakash Raj, who delivers one of the most memorable villain roles in Telugu cinema in it. The cast also includes Mukesh Rishi, Telangana Shakuntala, Ajay, Geetha, Dharmavarapu Subramanyam, Rajan P Dev, Achyuth and others in key roles.
Speaking about the re-release, director Gunasekhar said he is excited to watch the film again in the 4K format. “Okkadu continues to grow in popularity with every passing year. Though the film has been re-released several times, it is now coming back once again in 4K quality on June 26. Like the audience, I am also very excited to watch the film on the big screen again. I sincerely hope movie lovers revisit this classic and shower it with the same love and appreciation,” said Gunasekhar.
Producer MS Raju is also eagerly waiting for the re-release. “During my childhood, when theatres were running empty in the black-and-white era, films like Mayabazar and Pathala Bhairavi were re-released many times. Now, Okkadu is also returning once again, and fans are eagerly waiting to experience the film even though it has already been released multiple times. Whenever Okkadu re-releases, it becomes a festival for Mahesh Babu fans, and this time will be no different,” said MS Raju.
