Senior actor Srikanth’s son Roshan Meka made his comeback with Champion, marking the directorial debut of Pradeep Advaitham. The film revolves around Williams, a young footballer who dreams of moving to London, while the narrative is interwoven with the historical backdrop of Bhiranpally village in Telangana and its revolt against the Nizams.

Produced by Priyanka Dutt, GK Mohan, and Gemini Kiran, Champion was released in theatres on December 25. Despite being mounted on a considerable budget and backed by strong conviction in its story, the film failed to perform well at the box office.

Malayali actress Anaswara Rajan made her Telugu debut with this film, playing the female lead. Though the makers invested heavily in the project, audience response did not translate into commercial success.

The makers have now turned to the digital platform. Netflix India South officially announced that Champion will begin streaming from January 29 in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada.

The film marked Roshan Meka’s return to cinema after a gap of four years, though the outcome was not as expected. Adding to the nostalgia factor, yesteryear actor Nandamuri Kalyan Chakravarthy made a comeback after 36 years with this film.

Champion also features an ensemble cast including Vennela Kishore, Kovai Sarala, Kay Kay Menon, Prakash Raj, Murali Sharma, Naresh, and others. On the music front, the song 'Gira Gira' emerged as a major highlight, becoming a chartbuster and ruling the music charts for several weeks.
