Venu Udugula has been in the news recently after producing the small-budget film Raju Weds Rambai, which turned out to be a sensation and also won Best Film at the Telangana Gaddar Film Awards. The filmmaker, who has also directed a few Telugu films, is once again in the news — but this time for the wrong reason.
An advocate filed a case against popular singer Mangli at the Punjagutta police station, alleging a Rs 10 crore fraud. According to the complaint, Mangli’s brothers are accused of cheating the advocate’s client. Venu Udugula’s name surfaced in the case, with reports suggesting that he acted as a mediator and advised Subba Rao not to file a complaint.
In a counter move, Mangli also filed a case at the Narsingi police station against advocate Subba Rao. Interestingly, Venu Udugula’s name appeared in that case as well, with some reports claiming that the singer had mentioned him. Several media outlets further speculated about his involvement.
Responding to these reports, Venu Udugula has now issued a clarification, firmly stating that he has no connection with the case. He released an official press note addressing the issue.
“I was deeply distressed to see certain media organisations linking my name to the case involving singer Mangli. Since both Mangli and lawyer Subba Rao are known to me, I only suggested that the issue be resolved amicably and that justice be ensured for the victims. That is the extent of my involvement in this matter,” he said.
He further added, “My name has not been mentioned as an accused anywhere in the FIR related to this case. Advocate Subba Rao has also clearly stated to the media that I have no connection with this case. The Punjagutta police have confirmed that I am not related to this matter. I request media friends to understand that such reports can affect a person’s reputation, dignity and family. The love and support you have shown me over the years have given me strength, and I hope you will continue to extend the same support.”
