Anushka Shetty starrer Ghaati, which had a theatrical release earlier this month, is now gearing for its OTT premiere. On Wednesday, the film’s streaming partner Prime Video announced September 26 as the OTT release date for Ghaati.

Directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, Ghaati also stars Vikram Prabhu, Chaitanya Rao, and Ravindra Vijay in major roles. Set against the rugged Eastern Ghats on the Andhra–Odisha border, Ghaati features Anushka as Sheelavathi, telling the story of her journey from oppression to revenge as she along with her beloved Desi Raju (Vikram Prabhu) dreams of freeing their people from the cycle of exploitation from ruthless Naidu brothers (played by Chaitanya Rao and Ravindra Vijay) who use the marginalised community, and forces them into an illicit trade and smuggling netwrotk.

Produced by UV Creations and First Frame Entertainments, Ghaati also boasted of a strong technical team, with art direction from National Award-winner Thota Tharani, cinematography by Manojh Reddy Katasani and dialogues by Sai Madhav Burra.

However, reportedly made on a budget of 50 crores, Ghaati struggled to take off at the box office after a weak opening. According to a report from Sacnilk.com, the domestic boxoffice earnings of Ghaati stand approximately around Rs 7 crore (nett).  In our review for the film, we noted, “The second half is where the most important payoffs of the film were supposed to happen but then, Krish seems torn between the film he wanted to make and the “commercial” movie he is not good at. What should have been a descent into rage and revolution turns into a sulky and meandering melodrama.”

Besides Telugu, Ghaati can also be streaming in Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada in over 240 countries and territories, starting from September 26.
