Teja Sajja’s Mirai hit the screens on Friday. The film received mostly decent to positive reviews. JioHotstar has acquired the film’s OTT rights and now reports have come out that there is going to be an 8-week window between the theatrical and digital premiere.
Directed by Karthik Ghattamaneni, Mirai is an action-adventure blending mythology with modern superhero storytelling. Teja’s character Vedha embarks on a journey to attain Mirai, a divine staff linked to Lord Rama’s path in Treta Yuga.
Based on Ashokan mythology, Manchu Manoj plays the antagonist Black Sword, who is in pursuit of nine sacred books that could make him invincible. The film also features Shriya Saran as Teja’s mother, Jayaram and Jagapathi Babu in key roles, and promises large-scale visuals with Ghattamaneni also handling cinematography. Music is composed by Gowra Hari.
Produced as a pan-Indian release, Mirai hit theatres in 2D and 3D across eight languages on September 12, clashing with Bellamkonda Sreenivas’ horror-thriller Kishkindhapuri.
The CE review of Mirai says, “Karthik Gattamneni’s film has grand passion, hit-and-miss visual design, but its few sparks of childlike wonder somewhat hold it together.”
