Rashmika Mandanna, who recently scored a box office hit with horror-comedy Thamma, is gearing up for another major release with The Girlfriend. Hesham Abdul Wahab is composing music for the film. The new single from the film was unveiled on Thursday.

Sung by Kapil Kapilan, ‘Laayi Le’ is an upbeat love song with a dreampop-like sound that captures the blossoming romance between the protagonists Bhooma and Vikram, who seem to be opposite in their personalities and yet finds themselves drawn to each other. On a composition level, however, there is a lot of experimentation going on here, be it the unconventional melody of the antara, or the use of guitar. Besides composing the number, Hesham Abdul Wahab has also provided additional vocals for it.  Rakendu Mouli has penned lyrics for the warm, upbeat number.

Starring opposite Rashmika Mandanna is Dheekshith Shetty who is known among Telugu film-goers for films like Dasara among others. Among others, Rao Ramesh and Rohini will be seen in supporting roles. Additionally, writer-director Rahul Ravindran too will be seen in an extended cameo, as a wise college professor.

The Girlfriend is produced by Dheeraj Mogilineni and Vidya Kopineedi under the banner of Dheeraj Mogilineni Entertainment and Geetha Arts, while Allu Aravind is presenting the film. Key technicians include Krishnan Vasanth as the cinematographer, Chota K Prasad as the editor, and Shravya Varma as the costume designer. Production design is by Ramakrishna and Monica. The background score is by Prashanth R Vihari.

Rashmika’s upcoming Telugu films include Mysaa, directed by Ravindra Pulle. She is also reported to be co-starring with Vijay Deverakonda in one of the upcoming films.

Rahul Ravindran's previous directorials include Chi La Sow, for which he won the National Award for Best Screenplay, and Manmadhudu 2.
