Patang, the youthful comedy-drama that has been in the production stage for a long time, is finally set to fly to the screens. Written and directed by debutant Praneeth Prattipati, Patang will hit theatres on December 25.

Produced by Vijay Sekhar Anne, Sampath Maka, and Sresh Kothinti under the banner of Cinematic Elements and Rishaan Cinemas, the film centres on the friendship and coming-of-age journey of three young people, playing against a backdrop of a high-profile kite-flying competition. Patang marks the debut for its lead cast members Vamsi Pujit, Preethi Pagadala and Pranav Kaushik.

Patang was announced way back in 2021, but there have been multiple delays on both shoot and post-production level. The first teaser for the film was released in May last year.  In late 2023, the makers had updated that they plan to release their film in Early 2024. The shoot was finally wrapped up in September 2024, but further snags in post-production stage caused the film to be postponed again.

A few days ago, the makers posted a series of posts on their social media page, giving a detailed account of their journey so far, and the hurdles they faced in the film’s making.

Popular singer SP Charan too plays a significant role in the film.  Jose Jimmy, who composed music for the popular web series 30 Weds 21, is the music director for Patang. One of the singles from the film, ‘Andala Tarakasi’ has garnered more than 2 million YouTube hits. In the technical team, Shakti Arvind and Chanakya Reddy Toorupu are the cinematographer and editor, respectively.

Praneeth has earlier worked as a writer on shows like Tharagathi Gadhi Daati (2021) and LOL Salaam (2021) and the feature film Rajahmundry Rose Milk which is yet to get a theatrical release.
