The Girlfriend, the recently released Rashmika Mandanna starrer which emerged as a surprise box office hit, is now gearing up for its OTT premiere. The intense relationship drama will begin streaming on Netflix on December 5.

Written and directed by Rahul Ravindran, The Girlfriend tells the story of Bhooma (Rashmika), a young English literature student who accidentally finds herself emboiled in a toxic relationship and in her efforts to come out of it, finds herself. The film also starred Dheekshith Shetty, Anu Emmanuel, Rao Ramesh in lead cast and Rohini in a special cameo. Rahul Ravindran himself played a small role in the film.

Besides receiving rave reviews from most critics and particularly finding a resonance with female audience members, the film also emerged as a box office hit. According to a report from Sacnilk.com, the film collected nearly 29 crores (gross) at the box office worldwide. In our review for the film, we noted, “The biggest accomplishment for the film is how it manages to keep us emotionally invested without going overboard with the ‘messaging.’ Yes, there is a pertinent point the film wants to make — but driving the heavy heart is a level-headed steering by Rahul Ravindran.”

The film marked Rahul Ravindran’s return as a director after nearly 6 years — his previous directorial was Manmadhudu 2. 

Besides Telugu, The Girlfriend will also be available for streaming in Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, and Malayalam.

The film was produced by Dheeraj Mogilineni and Vidya Kopineedi under Dheeraj Mogilineni Entertainment and Geetha Arts banners while Allu Aravind was onboard as a presenter.
