Complaint filed against SS Rajamouli for ‘hurtful’ remarks on Lord Hanuman at Varanasi event

SS Rajamouli had addressed the subject of his atheism, and how his family’s belief in god didn’t help them overcome the technical glitches at the Varanasi event

At the recent-held event for their film Varanasi, where the first glimpse of the Mahesh Babu starrer was unveiled, SS Rajamouli had begun his speech by remarking about his non-belief in Lord Hanuman, as the team faced a few technical barriers in the teaser unveiling ceremony.

Rajamouli’s comments had elicited a strong reaction from many sections of social media, with film-goers criticising the maker for offending the religious sentiments of people, while cashing on the mythological texts for his films. Now, reports are coming in that Rashtriya Varana Sena has filed a complaint against the RRR maker for the same.

Reportedly, the committee has filed the complaint at Saroornagar police station, alleging that Rajamouli’s comments on Hanuman at the event hurt the sentiment of Hindus.

It is not yet clear whether the police has taken any further action in this direction.

It is to be noted the first glimpse of Varanasi too carries strong visual elements of religious iconography from Hinduism, including the mention of ‘Treta Yug, ’ the saffron flag, the trident, among many more.

By the looks of it, Varanasi promises to be a time-travel film with touch of sci-fi, adventure as well as mythology, with Mahesh Babu portraying a reincarnated avatar of a religious deity.
