The film sees writer-director Rahul Ravindran return to the director's chair after 6 years, when he directed Manmadhudu 2. The Girlfriend, which also features Rao Ramesh and Rohini, has been receiving rave reviews since its release on November 7. The film has also performed well at the box office, earning over Rs 20 crore worldwide within five days.
Our CE review of the film read, "The biggest accomplishment for the film is how it manages to keep us emotionally invested without going overboard with the ‘messaging.’ Yes, there is a pertinent point the film wants to make — but driving the heavy heart is a level-headed steering by Rahul Ravindran. Defying my biggest fears about it, The Girlfriend incorporates these little touches that only add to the emotional impact, without getting too verbose."
Dheeraj Mogilineni and Vidya Kopineedi have produced the film under the banners of Dheeraj Mogilineni Entertainment and Geetha Arts, while Allu Aravind is presenting the film. The music for the film is composed by Hesham Abdul Wahab, who is most known for his Hi Nanna soundtrack. Prashanth R Vihari has composed the background score.
