Rana Daggubati, Vijay Deverakonda, among others, booked for promoting betting apps

Prominent Telugu film stars like Vijay Deverakonda, Rana Daggubati and Ananya Nagalla have been booked for alleged promotion of betting apps. On Wednesday, Cyderabad police booked these actors, among many others, under Sections 318 (4), 112 and 49 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with relevant sections of Information Technology act and Telangana Gaming Act, 1974.

The case was registered based on a complaint by a Miyapur resident named Phanindra Sharma, where the complainant raised the issue of financial distress and encouraging addictive practices due to these betting apps. Other celebrities named in the list are Prakash Raj, Manchu Lakshmi, and Nidhi Agerwal. The list also includes popular content creators like Harsha Sai, Siri Hanumanthu, Varshini Sounderajan, Neha Pathan, and Sreemukhi. A total of 25 individuals have been booked in this case by the police. 

Earlier this week, in a separate complaint, Punjagutta Police of Hyderabad had booked a case against 11 social media influencers on a complaint made by a private employee named Vinay, who had raised concerns about inethical promotion of gambling activities through betting apps and websites, which is in violation of the Public Gambling Act of 1867.
