SS Thaman: We decided to scrap and re-compose songs for The Raja Saab

Music composer SS Thaman has announced in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter that he will be recomposing the songs for Prabhas’ upcoming film The Raja Saab. The decision was made as the initial compositions had not been filmed yet, and Thaman felt they had lost their freshness.

Speaking about the change, Thaman said, “When audio labels invest Rs 30-40 crores in a film, I believe it’s my responsibility as a music composer to deliver my best. Moreover, since it’s Prabhas’ film, we have to aim for something on a much bigger scale. We composed songs for The Raja Saab a while ago. But since they had not been shot yet, I felt those tunes had lost their freshness. So, we decided to scrap them and are now re-composing the songs.”

Directed by Maruthi, The Raja Saab is a horror-comedy and marks Prabhas’ first film in the genre. Initially set for an April 2025 release, the film has faced multiple delays due to Prabhas’ injury and other factors. A new release date is yet to be finalised, but reports suggest it may arrive in cinemas by the end of the year.

The Raja Saab is being produced by People Media Factory, reportedly with a budget of more than Rs 200 crore. The film also stars Nidhhi Agerwal and Malavika Mohanan as the female leads.
