Nagarjuna has said that his decision to take on a role in Kuberaa came at a time when he was seeking fresh creative challenges. Speaking at the third single launch event in Mumbai, Nagarjuna explained, “This film is very special to me. It came to me at one point of time where I was wondering about what’s next. I thought I can’t keep doing the same roles. That’s when Sekhar Kammula, with whom I wanted to work for the last 15 years, came to me with this role. I didn’t even ask what role he was offering me, I just said – ‘Yes'.”

Directed by Sekhar Kammula, Kuberaa marks a departure from the filmmaker’s signature romantic dramas and ventures into the social thriller genre. The film explores themes of inequality and power through intersecting characters from different social backgrounds.

Kuberaa’s cast includes Dhanush as a homeless man, Nagarjuna as an investigative officer, Jim Sarbh as a wealthy industrialist, and Rashmika Mandanna in a supporting role. The story appears to revolve around a covert operation in which Dhanush’s character is chosen by Nagarjuna’s character for an undisclosed mission.

Produced by Sri Venkateswara Cinemas LLP and Amigos Creations, Kuberaa will release in Telugu and Tamil, with dubbed versions in Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam. The film is scheduled to hit screens on June 20.
