Reports suggest that Nag Ashwin, the writer-director of Kalki 2898 AD, spilled beans about the most anticipated sequel for the mytho-scifi film. He said that scripting of the sequel has been completed, and the team are working on aligning dates from the film’s lead, Prabhas. The Baahubali star has few more parallel commitments after he wraps up his current project, The Raja Saab. Prabhas is yet to start shooting for the untitled Hanu Raghavapudi film and Spirit by Sandeep Reddy Vanga.

Nag Ashwin reportedly further revealed that the team is aiming to release the film by the end of 2026. Kalki 2898 AD has an ensemble cast of Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan among others. The futuristic film had a worldwide gross of more than Rs 1000 crores making it one of the highest grossing Indian films.

Kalki 2898 AD is based in a dystopian future where technology is advanced, but all natural resources are eroded. It shows humanity surviving in a harsh world under the world’s ruling class who live in ‘The complex.’ Prabhas plays bounty hunter Bhairava who goes above and beyond to track and capture a subject who escaped from the lab of the complex. How he confronts the immortal Ashwaththama, played powerfully by Amitabh Bachchan. The film ends on a high note setting up stakes for the second part.

Kalki 2898 AD is produced by Ashwini Dutt, Swapna Dutt and Priyanka Dutt of Vyjayanthi Movies. The makers also have more plans to expand the mytho-scifi universe.
