Actor-turned-politician Nagababu has reacted to Sivaji’s comments on women’s clothing, releasing a detailed video statement on his social media platforms. Condemning the remarks, Nagababu said that no individual has the right to dictate what women should or should not wear.
“Moral policing has no place in a democratic country like India. No one can decide how women should dress,” Nagababu said, adding that such attitudes are unconstitutional. He observed that society continues to be driven by male chauvinism and called for a change in mindset.
Nagababu stressed that women wearing modern outfits is not wrong and that crimes against women are not caused by clothing, but by the cruel mentality of men. He clarified that his response was made as a common citizen and not with the intention of targeting Sivaji personally.
“Everyone seems eager to decide how a woman should behave, what she should wear, and how she should speak. Who gives them that right? This kind of moral policing is completely wrong and goes against the Constitution,” he said in the video.
He further stated that every woman deserves self-respect and equality, noting that fashion and social norms change with time. “Instead of delivering sermons, treat women as equal members of your family and allow them to live with the same freedom as men,” he said.
Nagababu also pointed out that courts have repeatedly held that moral policing violates fundamental rights, including liberty, dignity, privacy, and equality guaranteed under Articles 14, 19, and 21 of the Constitution.
Nagababu, who has acted in and produced several films, is currently associated with the Jana Sena Party, founded by his younger brother and actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan. He presently serves as a Member of the Legislative Council of Andhra Pradesh.
