At the recently held JioHotstar South Unbound event, the streamer announced its new slate of 25 projects for south Indian languages. Among those projects is Vishakha, the official Telugu remake of the series Aarya that was headlined by Sushmita Sen. Kajal Aggarwal will be seen reprising the role.

While Kajal was not present at the event, she later shared an official statement, expressing her excitement for Vishakha while also recalling her deep connection with south Indian film industries. She noted, “The South industry didn’t just give me work, it gave me a home. What has stayed constant is the honesty and emotion in its stories. It’s wonderful to see JioHotstar creating a space where stories come first and where authenticity, talent, and creativity are truly celebrated.”

In Vishakha, Kajal steps into the titular role, a part that demands intensity, emotional depth and transformation at once, as the protagonist  evolves into a fierce protector for her children. According to the makers, Vishakha is a character who ‘discovers an inner strength that propels her into a complex world of crime, loyalty and survival as she is pushed to the edge.’ Being the versatila actor that she is, Kajal is expected to bring her signature grace and strong screen presence into this adaptation.

For Kajal, Vishakha marks not just a bona fide return to Telugu industry but a reinvention of sorts too. Kajal Aggarwal’s last Telugu film was Kannappa, where she appeared in a brief cameo as Parvati. Before that, she had headlined the investigation thriller Satyabhama that released in June 2024.

Other Telugu projects that were part of the south unbound lineup include  Moodu Lantharlu (starring Aishwarya Rajesh), Vikram On Duty, Roadies, Vishwadev Rachakonda starrer Varam, Mad for Each Other, and Bindu Madhavai starrer college romance Batchmates. Additionally, Priyadarshi starrer Save The Tiger returns with a third season.
