The recently released small-budget film Raju Weds Rambai has turned out to be a big hit at the box office. The film is based on a true incident that took place in Telangana, and its music was composed by Suresh Bobbili. He received widespread appreciation for his work in the film, especially for the songs. Today, Suresh is one of the most sought-after music directors for small and medium-budget filmmakers.
In his latest interview with Gulte, Suresh spoke about how he quit alcohol after working on Virata Parvam. He revealed that he was heavily addicted to alcohol at the time he composed music for the film. But everything changed because of a phone call from actress Sai Pallavi, who played the female lead in the same film.
“I was signed as the music director for Virata Parvam, but halfway through, they replaced me with someone else. Later, the project came back to me, and it was Sai Pallavi garu who insisted that I continue as the music director,” Suresh said. He added that after the final mixing of the film was completed, he received an unexpected call from Sai Pallavi.
“Once the film releases, you (Suresh Bobbili) will be the first to receive appreciation — then the technicians, and only after that the artistes. So don’t neglect your work. Put in your efforts, leave behind distractions like alcohol, and you will earn a good name,” Sai Pallavi told him.
Her words struck Suresh deeply, he recalled. “When a star actress like Sai Pallavi not only supported my work but also showed concern for me as a person, it reflected on my life. I realised I had a great opportunity as a music director, and I should make the most of it. There are many talented musicians who haven’t yet received opportunities, but I had so much work. After her phone call, I decided to quit alcohol,” Suresh said.
"The journey, however, was not easy. He struggled intensely for three months. “Those three months felt like hell — body shivering, intense cravings, and moments when I almost couldn’t control myself. But I overcame it all and finally quit,” he recalled.
Besides Raju Weds Rambai, Suresh Bobbili recently also composed music for The Great Pre-Wedding Show, which received great reviews and performed decently at the box office.
