Vivek Athreya, whose actioner Saripodhaa Sanivaaram hit theatres on August 29, has been the solo writer for all his directorial ventures so far, including the recent Nani starrer. During a recent interview, the Ante Sundaraniki director spoke about his desire to work with other writers for his future projects.

In an interaction with the podcast channel The Permit Room, Vivek Athreya stated, “I want to collaborate with a lot of writers. Because I feel, subconsciously, there is a tendency to repeat ourselves. Unknowingly, a sense of fatigue seeps in (to our writing). So that way, if someone brings in a new perspective, it would be a good experience. We need more screenwriters in general. In our film industry, we are a bit short of writers.”

The filmmaker also spoke about how writers are not given enough respect overall, which leads to their inclination towards film direction. He explained, “It becomes a compulsion to become a director because you don’t get due respect (as a writer). When you don’t see enough growth, financial or recognition-wise, obviously, it becomes your tendency to get more interested in the ‘writer-director’ tag.”

Vivek’s previous writing-directing ventures include Mental Madhilo, Brocheverarura and Ante Sundaraniki.
