Sri Reddy put out an open letter and issued an apology addressed to TDP leader Nara Lokesh and his family on Thursday. The Rajamahendravaram city police have filed a case against actor and YSR Congress Party supporter Sri Reddy, citing the alleged posting of defamatory content on social media targeting prominent political figures. The case, registered under the Information Technology Act, 2000, involves accusations of defamatory remarks against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan prior to the 2024 general elections.

Acknowledging her past criticism and expressing regret. “I have spoken harshly many times, and I am apologizing once again,” Reddy wrote. “If you look at the comments I posted over the past ten days, you can see how many people’s sentiments I have hurt. I made a shameful mistake. Sorry to Chandrababu Naidu, Lokesh, their family members, Home Minister, Andhra Jyoti, ITDP, TDP activists, social media.. Janasena media, social media, sorry to Pawan Kalyan. Please forgive this Telugu daughter.”

The case, filed at the Bommuru police station, originated from a complaint by TDP supporter Majji Padma. The allegations center on Sri Reddy’s history of social media comments supporting YSRCP and former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, while sharply criticizing leaders from the opposition parties, including TDP, Janasena, and BJP. TDP general secretary Majji Padma claimed that Sri Reddy’s comments were particularly abusive, yet unaddressed due to the YSRCP government’s tenure. She has now called for Sri Reddy’s immediate arrest.

Sri Reddy further pledged to refrain from using harsh language and sought leniency for herself and her family. “Even if YSRCP comes to power again, I swear I will not use foul language,” she wrote, reflecting on her mistakes in both her cinematic and political endeavors.

In the last two weeks, the police department has been arresting various individuals for making defamatory and abusive comments on TDP before the elections. The AP police even served a notice to filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma and booked him under the same act.
