Renowned Telugu directors launch ‘Master of Suspense Hitchcock’ book by Pulagam Chinnarayana and Ravi Padi

Master of Suspense - Hitchcock is a compilation of 62 essays by 45 directors, 7 writers and 10 journalists

In honor of Alfred Hitchcock’s 125th birthday and the centenary of his first film, senior journalist and writer Pulagam Chinnarayana, along with IRS officer Ravi Padi, unveiled their latest book, Master of Suspense - Hitchcock. The book, a comprehensive tribute to the legendary filmmaker, features 62 essays by 45 directors, seven writers, and ten journalists, exploring Hitchcock’s life and works.

Renowned Telugu filmmaker Vamsy, who launched the book, expressed his deep admiration for Hitchcock, stating, “I’ve watched all 53 of his movies. My office walls are filled with his impressions. Writing a book about such a legend is a wonderful attempt.” Vamsy, who credits Hitchcock as an inspiration for his own work.

The event was graced by prominent figures from the Telugu film industry, including directors Mohanakrishna Indraganti, Meher Ramesh, and Shiva Nageswara Rao, as well as senior actor Nassar. Harish Shankar, who contributed an essay to the book, remarked, “Most people call Vamsy garu the ‘Andhra Hitchcock.’ For me, Hitchcock is Hollywood’s Vamsy. This book is a testament to the timeless relevance of his work.”

Director Mohanakrishna Indraganti highlighted Hitchcock’s influence on global cinema, saying, “From Psycho to Vertigo, his mastery of visual storytelling is unparalleled. Writing a book on such a legend is a commendable effort.”

The book’s cover, designed by award-winning publicity designer Eshwar, was unveiled during the event. Pulagam Chinnarayana, known for his extensive literary contributions to Telugu cinema, described the book as his 11th work and a labor of love. Pulagam Chinnarayana previously wrote 10 books, some of the recognised ones are Jandhya Marutham, Aanaati Aanavaallu, Cine Poornodayam, and Swarnayuga Sangeetha
