Stampede at Pushpa 2 premiere kills a woman

Allu Arjun arrived at the premiere venue shortly before the stampede occurred

A stampede occurred at the premiere show of Pushpa 2: The Rule on Thursday night at Sandhya RTC Crossroads theatre, Hyderabad, resulting in the demise of a woman and severe injuries to her son.

The arrival of Allu Arjun at the venue, who had come to greet his fans, ended up causing a frenzy, leading the fans to erupt in enthusiasm, as they ended up breaking the barricades and pushing into the theatre gates to meet their favourite star.

Meanwhile, police proceeded to close the gates to avoid further damage, eventually calling in additional reinforcements for crowd control, and did a lathi charge on the attendees. In the stampede that ensued, the woman, named Revathy, was killed while her son Sri Tej fell unconscious.

While Revathi was declared dead on arrival at the hospital, Sri Tej is in a critical condition. According to a report by South First, the woman, Revathi, was 39 year old, while her son Sri Tej is aged 9.

As of on Thursday night, the officials had cordoned off the area for further investigation.
