Shaakuntalam now streaming on Prime Video

The Samantha-starrer is a cinematic adaptation of Sanskrit play Abhijnana Shaakuntalam

Shaakuntalam, the recently released Samantha film is now available for streaming on Prime Video. The film is available in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam.

It may be noted that the film released in 3D and 2D formats theatrically. The film is directed by Gunasekhar, who also produced the film along with his daughter Neelima Guna, under their banner Guna Teamworks.

Shaakuntalam also stars of Dev Mohan, Mohan Babu, Aditi Balan, Ananya Nagalla, Sachin Khedekar, Jisshu, Madhoo, Gautami, Adarsh Balakrishna and Subbaraju released on April 14. The film also stars Allu Arha, the daughter of Allu Arjun in the former’s first onscreen appearance. She plays the role of prince Bharata in the film. An adaptation of Kalidasa’s 10th century Sanskrit play Abhijnana Shaakuntalam, Shaakuntalam is the story of Shakuntala, a child born to the sage Vishwamitra and Menaka, an apsara, and how she traverses through the phases of love, betrayal and ostracisation before giving birth to Bharata, who would eventually be the progenitor of the Pandavas and the Kauravas. 

The music of Shaakuntalam was composed by Mani Sharma, with cinematography by Sekhar V Joseph and editing by Prawin Pudi. 

Dil Raju distributed the film under his banner Sree Venkateshwara Creations. Shaakuntalam performed poorly in the box office and received negative reviews from critics.
