Abhilasha Cherukuri

Gang Leader, the 1991 action drama starring Chiranjeevi and Vijayashanti, will be re-released on February 11 in the Telugu states. The film also stars Sarathkumar, Murali Mohan, Anandraj and Rao Gopal Rao in supporting roles. Directed by Vijay Bapineedu the film's music is composed by Bappi Lahiri.

Gang Leader is the latest film to join the bandwagon of iconic yesteryear movies to get a re-release. Other prominent films on the list are Okkadu (2003), Jalsa (2008), Pokiri (2006) and Kushi (2001). These films, often remastered to the 4K format, opened to packed audiences and celebrations all over. Chiranjeevi’s last film to have a re-release was Gharana Mogudu (1992), which ran in theatres last year around the time of his birthday in late August.

Gang Leader is an action entertainer interspersed with elements of betrayal, revenge and family sentiments. Over the last three decades, the film has had a cult following for reinventing the formula of masala films and Chiranjeevi's persona as an action hero.
