Indians woke up to great news today as Naatu Naatu bagged the Best Original Song- Motion Picture award at the Golden Globes 2023. RRR was nominated in two categories, the other being Best Picture- Non-English. Argentina 1985 bagged the award in that category, while RRR missed it.

The other nominees in the category include the Korean film Decision to Leave, Germany's All Quiet On The Western Front, and Belgium's Close. The winner, Argentina 1985 was a film about the 1985 trial of the Juntas which prosecuted the ringleaders of Argentina’s last civil-military dictatorship.

Moments before the Best Picture award was announced, the RRR team celebrated a sweet moment as composer MM Keeravani received the award for Naatu Naatu. The Golden Globes is an important predecessor to the Academy Awards, where RRR is hoping to bag a nomination in the Best Picture Category.

In 1983, the Indian film Gandhi won the same award  (it was called Best Foreign Film back then). However, it was a co-production between India and the United Kingdom in English and Hindi.  If RRR bagged the award this year, it would have been the first film solely produced in India to win an award in that category at the Golden Globes.
