Actor Nikhil Siddharth's upcoming mystery-thriller Karthikeya 2 was set to lock horns with Nithiin-starrer Macherla Niyojikavargam on August 12. However, the makers of the Nikhil-starrer have decided to push their film's release by a day to ensure that one film did not eat into the collections of the other. "We have deferred the release by a day and I think it's a wise decision in the best interests of our industry. But it makes me sad that my film has been given the last preference and each time, we have been rescheduling the release. Nevertheless, it feels good to not clash with another film," said Nikhil, while expressing his disappointment over the film's delayed release.

Directed by Chandoo Mondeti, Karthikeya 2 is a sequel to the 2014 blockbuster hit Karthikeya. Set in the backdrop of Subramanyapuram, Karthikeya revolved around a medical student Karthik, played by Nikhil, who unravels the secret behind the series of mysterious deaths around an ancient Subramanya Swamy temple. According to reports, the sequel, which is set in the backdrop of Dwaraka, will pick up from where the first part ended.

Shot extensively in Portugal, Greece, Rann of Kutch, Dwaraka, Himachal Pradesh, and Visakhapatnam, the film has Anupama Parameswaran as the leading lady, with Anupam Kher playing a prominent role.

Besides Telugu, Karthikeya 2 will also be dubbed into Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi.
