Director Karthik Subbaraj's film Dorothy, starring Sananth, Rishikanth and Keerthy Suresh in important roles, opened theatrically on Friday. While the early response for the film was mixed, with a section of the audience criticising its treatment of an LGBTQ+ angle, it has added more shows in the coming days. Recently, distributor Sakthi Film Factory made the announcement regarding the addition of shows. The distribution company also claimed that the audience criticised Karthik's film without even watching it on the basis of fake reviews on the internet and that the same viewers were watching it at the time.

Karthik quote-tweeted the distribution company's post and wrote, "Be calm and believe in the audience." At the same time, the filmmaker said that he felt "overwhelmed with the love showered upon Dorothy in theatres."

Dorothy has done better in theatres on Saturday and Sunday, going by data from the box office tracker Sacnilk. While the film earned 90 lakh on Friday, the collection jumped to 1.25 crore on Saturday. So far this Sunday, it has earned 1.10 crore from theatres. It is worth noting that the aforementioned pertains to the net collection for the film and that too from theatres in India.

Notably, the tracker's data shows that the film has earned 2.38 crore through advance reservations alone for the coming two days, including 1.84 crore in terms of non-block-seat figures. The tracker also reveals that Chennai remains the number one city for the film in terms of the data related to the reservations. With more positive word of mouth coming in from the audience and critical acclaim to back it up, the Dorothy box office collection is expected to go up in the near future.
