Writer-director Karthik Subbaraj's Dorothy is seeing gradual growth in its gross collection after the film's theatrical release on Friday. On its release date, the film earned 90 lakh from theatres, according to data from the box office tracker Sacnilk. However, on Saturday, the collection jumped to 1.25 crore. On Sunday, it has earned a gross collection of 74 lakh so far. This brings the overall Dorothy box office collection to 3.37 crore.

There has been a mixed response to the film from general audiences, but it has received universal critical acclaim. Its story follows two friends, played by Sananth and Rishikanth, who has grown up with toxic masculinity, casteism, and violence around them. However, the friends' belief system and lives change as a compassionate Dorothy (Keerthy Suresh) challenges the societal prejudice surrounding them.

Dorothy has music by Ilaiyaraaja, who makes his first collaboration with director Karthik Subbaraj for a film. It also marks Ilaiyaraaja's 1,540th film as a music director. Recently, he was honoured with a ceremonial stamp at the Parliament of Australia for his 50 year-long journey in the film industry.

Dorothy recently had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, thus becoming the first Tamil film in the last ten years to be premiered at the event. The audience gave a standing ovation to the team behind the film after its TIFF premiere.

The audience has also been appreciative of the music in the film, with songs such as 'Kalyana Virundhu' gaining much attention from them. The lyrical video for the track 'Kalyana Virundhu' itself has gained more than 17 million views.

The film is produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Guneet Monga Kapoor, and Achin Jain. Its technical team also includes cinematographer S Thirunavukkarasu, editor Ganesh Siva, and choreographer Sherif M.
