Karthik Subbaraj's film Dorothy opened in theatres on Friday to rave reviews from critics, although the film's treatment of a sensitive topic has elicited mixed responses from general audiences. Still, many regard it as the filmmaker's best work till date. Starring Keerthy Suresh, Rishikanth and Sananth in the lead roles, the film follows two longtime friends who grew up in a universe shaped by violence, toxic masculinity, and caste divisions. As a woman with compassion challenges the societal prejudice surrounding the two, it impacts their beliefs and lives.

The film is yet to make a big impact at the box office. In its opening day, it earned a net collection of 90 lakh from theatres, according to data from the box office tracker Sacnilk. So far this Tuesday, its net collection has been 50 lakh. On the whole, the Dorothy box office collection stands at 1.64 crore (gross), according to the latest available data.

On day two, some theatres have added more shows for the film. With only about half the day completed and more shows to go as well as more positive appreciation coming in, it is expected that the film would pick up pace at the box office in the coming days. Earlier, it had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, where the film received a standing ovation from the audience.

The film has music by Ilaiyaraaja, making his first collaboration with Karthik Subbaraj. Many of the songs from the film have been popular among the audience, with 'Kalyana Virundhu,' in particular, enjoying plenty of attention.
