Director Ram is waiting for the release of Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai, which is slated for October 01, Thursday. Starring Nivin Pauly, Soori, and Anjali, among others, the film follows an immortal man who has been alive for over 8000 years and his dynamic with an ordinary human being. At a promotional event for the upcoming film, Ram revealed that he will make an action thriller next.

So far in his career, Ram has made intense dramas such as Thanga Meenkal and Peranbu, a psychological thriller in Kattradhu Thamizh, a romantic drama such as Taramani, and a feel-good film in Paranthu Po. The action thriller is expected to mark a new genre for the filmmaker, who won a National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil for Thanga Meenkal.

Interestingly, the proposed film is set to have music by Yuvan Shankar Raja as well. At the recent event, Ram said that Yuvan suggested the genre of the film to him. "We spoke about the film recently and should start work on it soon," the filmmaker said, to which Yuvan replied by saying that he asked the director change his genre. Ram also revealed that he narrated the story to Yuvan and the composer chose the genre for it. "Therefore, it is his responsibility to ensure that the film turns out to be good," the filmmaker quipped, referring to Yuvan.

The upcoming film is set to continue the collaboration between Ram and Yuvan Shankar Raja. The director and the music composer have worked on all films directed by Ram, although he only composed the background music for Paranthu Po. Santhosh Narayanan composed the songs for Paranthu Po, as Yuvan could not work on the soundtrack for it due to scheduling and location constraints during production.
