Nayanthara had a couple of back-to-back releases in late August, including Toxic, where she features in an ensemble cast led by Yash, and Hi where she stars with Kavin. Director Vishnu Edavan's film is still running in theatres. The film released theatrically on August 28 and has received mixed to positive reviews from audiences and critics. According to data from the box office tracker Sacnilk, it has earned around 15 crore from theatres worldwide.

Even as the film is running in cinema halls, ZEE5 announced on Wednesday that it is set to become available on the streaming platform from September 25, Friday. The streamer made the announcement with the caption, "Heartwarming entertainer is here to say “Hi” to your next favourite romance."

Described as "a feel-good entertainer," Hi follows a youngster (Kavin) who runs away from his home after his parents choose to have him married to someone who is unfamiliar to him. The youngster knows what it is like to face rejection from women, having experienced this multiple times in his life. However, the man's life changes when his life crosses paths with a woman (Nayanthara), who is braver and more level-headed than him and who has also evaded a marriage that she did not want.

Hi marks the first collaboration between Nayanthara and Kavin as lead actors. The film also stars Radikaa Sarathkumar, the late K Bhagyaraj, Kathir, and Prabhu, among others. In our review, Avinash Ramachandran wrote that the film "revels in its cuteness" and that it has "portions play out like a 90s Hollywood rom-com such as Sleepless in Seattle, You’ve Got Mail, One Fine Day, and Notting Hill."

With the Hi OTT release date now locked, it provides viewers with an opportunity to watch the film for the first time or revisit it.
