Legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja has been honoured at the Parliament of Australia with a ceremonial stamp in commemoration of his 50-year-long journey in the film industry. The music director announced it with a video where he can be seen thanking the country's government officials for the honour. In the caption of the video, he wrote, "I offer my sincere gratitude to the Honorable Enver Erdogan MP, Minister for Finance, Victorian Government, and the Members of Parliament for having my 50-year journey commemorated through a ceremonial stamp release. Being born in a small, remote village in Tamil Nadu and honored in an Australian Parliament is truly touching. I also take this opportunity to thank the countless people who gave life to my music, the artists who walked beside me, and generations of listeners who welcomed my compositions."

Since late July, Ilaiyaraaja has been performing at different venues across the world in a celebration of his golden jubilee milestone as a film composer. As part of the concert tour, he is scheduled to perform in Sydney on September 26 and in Brisbane on October 05 this year. His concert tour also included several locations in North America.

In September last year, the Government of Tamil Nadu felicitated the iconic composer at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai to celebrate his 50-year milestone in cinema.

Recently, Ilaiyaraaja also made the headlines after the Film Federation of India announced the Marathi thriller Gondhal as India's official entry an Oscar in the International Feature Film category next year. Ever since the announcement regarding its selection, fans and news outlets highlighted Ilaiyaraaja's music as one of the highlights of the title.

The latest honour at the Australian Parliament comes only three days before the release of Dorothy, directed by Karthik Subbaraj. Starring Keerthy Suresh, Rishikanth and Sananth, the film has music by Ilaiyaraaja.
