It has been a week since the release of director Mathimaran Pugazhendhi's Mandaadi, starring Soori and Suhas, among others. The film opened in theatres to positive reviews from critics and audiences. In one week of its release, it has grossed around 75.13 crore from theatres worldwide, according to data from the tracker Sacnilk. So far this Thursday, it has earned about one crore at the India box office, the tracker reports. This takes the overall Mandaadi box office collection to around 76 crore.

The story follows the rivalry between two teams in a traditional sailboat race in coastal Tamil Nadu. Suhas and Soori, who are initially part of the same team, go their separate ways only to come back together for another race. The film also stars Sathyaraj, Mahima Nambiar, Mithun Jai Sankar, Ravindra Vijay, Bala Saravanan, and Stun Siva, among others.

According to reports, Mandaadi has become the highest-grossing film in Soori's career as a lead actor. The film has broken the previous records of the actor held by films such as Viduthalai, which earned around 53 crore, and Garudan, which minted about 60 crore, according to data from Sacnilk.

With the film, Soori has further reinforced his growing status as a leading actor in South Indian cinema. With his role as a police officer in director Vetri Maaran's Viduthalai, the actor proved his credentials as a lead hero, and critics opine that Mandaadi is a reaffirmation of the same. The film left several film fraternity members impressed, including Vetri Maaran. After watching it on the big screen, the acclaimed filmmaker said, "The hard work and dedication of the whole team have made a huge impact among viewers in theatres. The audience is connecting with the film." The filmmaker added, "I would like to wish Mathimaran, Soori and Elred Kumar for the film's success. It takes plenty of courage to make a film with this kind of a subject and that too with such dedication."
