Soori's recently released film Mandaadi has continued its dream start at the box office on Monday, the sixth day of its release. Having earned 15.25 crore on Sunday, according to data from Sacnilk, director Mathimaran Pugazhendhi's film grossed 13.15 crore on Monday. This takes the overall Mandaadi box office collection to 62.38 crore across the world, around 53 crore of which has come from India.
The film follows a battle between two rival teams in a conventional sailboat race. It also stars Suhas, Sathyaraj, Mahima Nambiar, Mithun Jai Sankar, Ravindra Vijay, Bala Saravanan, and Stun Siva, among others. Its technical team includes composer GV Prakash, cinematographer SR Kathir, editor Pradeep E Ragav, and production designer DRK Kiran. Audiences have been highlighting the stunt sequences, especially a climatic sailboat race, in the film. The stunt choreography team includes prominent names such as Peter Hein and Dhilip Subbarayan, alongside Mahesh Mathew.
Mandaadi continues Soori's run of films in prominent roles ever since the actor turned his focus away from supporting roles to leads with Vetri Maaran's Viduthalai. In our review, Akshay Kumar wrote, "Soori looks exceptional as Muthukaali. Carrying too many labels like a fantastic team player, traitor, and murderer attached to him, and eventually breaking down, Soori's emotional arc was brilliant. His stunts and other adventures are largely believable except in a few places where it looks like it is too soon for him to make certain superheroic feats convincing."
The review also added, "For any sports drama, the job is half done if the makers craft the sporting sequences well. Mandaadi wins big in this aspect for multiple reasons."
Produced by Elred Kumar, the film hit theatres on September 10, and it has a box office battle with PS Mithran's Sardar 2, starring Karthi, SJ Suryah, Malavika Mohanan, and Ashika Ranganath, among others.
