It has been more than two weeks since the release of Modha Rathri, starring Rishikanth and Anishma Anilkumar in the lead roles. The film opened in theatres to positive reviews from critics and audiences. It has also drawn appreciation from prominent names in the film industry, such as Silambarasan TR and director Tamizharasan Pachamuthu, to name two.
The latest to appreciate the film is actor Dhanush, who met the cast and crew before sharing a positive note about it on social media. On Wednesday, he took to his X page and wrote, "#ModhaRathri is such a heartwarming film. Have to applaud this wonderful effort by a bunch of first-timers. Please don’t miss it in theatres with your families!"
Tamizharasan Pachamuthu, who is set to direct Dhanush in one of the actor's upcoming films, quote-tweeted the actor's opinion and wrote, "Thank you, sir. Appreciation like this will inspire and encourage many more debut talents .Keep inspiring."
Modha Rathri is written and directed by Raja Karuppasamy in his directorial debut. It is produced by Naveen Yerneni and Y Ravi Shankar under Mythri Movie Makers, marking their third Tamil film after the Ajith Kumar starrer Good Bad Ugly and Pradeep Ranganathan-Mamitha Baiju's Dude. Responding to Dhanush's appreciation, Mythri Movie Makers wrote, "A moment that has the #ModhaRathri team on cloud nine."
The story follows a newlywed couple who is forced into the marriage. On their first night, each of them and their respective families confront harsh truths about the couple, making them wonder whether getting married was the right decision for them. Besides Rishikanth and Anishma Anilkumar, the film stars Chetan, Bagavathi Perumal, Abdool Lee, and A Venkatesh in supporting roles.
Despite all the glowing praise, Modha Rathri is yet to rake in the kind of money at the box office that it deserves. According to the box office tracker Sacnilk, it has earned 7.41 crore from theatres in India after its first ten days.
