Veteran actor Ramarajan and music composer Ilaiyaraaja are set to reunite for their 25th film together, titled Kadavul Thandha Parisu. The film marks another collaboration between the actor-composer duo, whose association produced several popular rural entertainers and memorable songs during the late 1980s and 1990s. The new project is directed by debutant Kasimayan, who has also penned the screenplay, while Rajagopal has written the comedy portions and dialogues, with M Adaikkalam also credited for the dialogues.

Ramarajan will headline the film, with Ilaiyaraaja composing the music. The makers have commenced work with the recording of songs, while preparations for the shooting are currently underway. Senthil and Kovai Sarala are also set to reunite with Ramarajan after a considerable gap and will be part of the film's comedy track.

The collaboration is particularly notable given the duo's long association. Their last reported film together before in the 90s was Annan, which released in 1999. They reunited after a 23-year gap for Ramarajan's Saamaniyan, which was released in 2024.

Ramarajan's association with Ilaiyaraaja dates back to the actor's rise as a leading man. Their collaborations include Enga Ooru Pattukaran (1987), Shenbagame Shenbagame (1988), Karagattakaran (1989), Ooru Vittu Ooru Vanthu (1990), Villu Pattukaran (1992), Themmangu Paattukaaran (1997) and Annan (1999), among others. Enga Ooru Pattukaran was a major success and helped establish the Ramarajan-Ilaiyaraaja combination, according to director Gangai Amaran.

Their most celebrated collaboration remains Karagattakaran. The 1989 film, which also starred Kanaka, Goundamani and Senthil, became a major commercial success and has since attained cult status. The film's songs, composed by Ilaiyaraaja, remain popular decades later, while its comedy tracks featuring Goundamani and Senthil continue to be part of Tamil pop-culture conversations.

After a long break from acting, Ramarajan returned with Medhai in 2012 and later starred in Saamaniyan in 2024. With Kadavul Thandha Parisu, the actor and composer now return for another outing, bringing together Ramarajan's familiar screen persona and Ilaiyaraaja's music.
