Maria Juliana, popularly known as Julie from her stint in the first season of Bigg Boss Tamil, has been at the receiving end of trolls and memes this past week. The backlash started after she was introduced as the wildcard contestant in Sony Vizha's Celebrity MasterChef show, featuring Samantha as one of the celebrity hosts and judges.

On the show, when she was being introduced, Julie said she could relate to Samantha because of their pregnancies and also mentioned that she was in her sixth month. Following the telecast of the episode, netizens began trolling and creating memes with her statements from a press meet she addressed back in May.

In May, Julie, who has openly stated her support for the DMK party, criticised the TVK government and the supporters of the party for online harassment in a press meet. She spoke about the trolls and how they affected her negatively, thereby resulting in the miscarriage of her first pregnancy.

Meme pages online targeted her by alleging that she lied in May about losing her unborn child, as the current pregnancy calculation does not tally. Hitting back at trolls, Julie let out a video statement on Saturday. She clarified that in the very same press meet, she mentioned having the miscarriage in the month of March.

Further, she attached copies of complaints she filed with the Chennai Commissioner against the trolling, which she alleged caused the loss of her foetus. Julie strongly condemned targeting a woman, especially a pregnant woman, online and compared it to the recent cyberbullying case, which allegedly caused the suicide of the Chennai-based finance influencer Harish.

In Sony Vizha's Celebrity MasterChef show, Julie competes with a number of celebrities, including Balaji Murugadoss, Reshmi Menon, Ravi Mariya, Siddhartha Shankar, Vinodhini Vaidynathan, and Dheena, among others.
