On Thursday, producer Kalanithi Maran’s banner Sun Pictures announced that their recent release, Jailer 2, has crossed 549 crore from theatres worldwide in seven days of its release. The producer also revealed that the Jailer sequel, starring Rajinikanth, is now the highest-grossing Tamil film in terms of the box office collection in the first week of release. Director Nelson's film has earned around 600 crore so far, according to data from the box office tracker Sacnilk.

The producer has made the announcement regarding the Jailer 2 box office collection, describing Rajinikanth as “The Box Office Emperor”. In all likelihood, the second part to Jailer will soon become the highest-grossing Tamil of all time, breaking the record of Rajinikanth's own 2.0, directed by Shankar, the sequel to their 2010 film Enthiran.

Jailer 2 follows Tiger Muthuvel Pandian (Rajinikanth), who keeps a low profile and leads a peaceful life while working at a supermarket. However, when an old enemy resurfaces and his past catches up with him, Muthuvel has no option but to go back to his old ruthless ways in order to protect not only his family but also his legacy.

In addition to Rajinikanth, the film has actors SJ Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan, and Suraj Venjaramoodu, alongside returning actors such as Ramya Krishnan, Mirnaa, Yogi Babu, and Mohanlal, among others. It also has a special appearance from Hrithik Roshan, which has mostly received positive reactions from the audience.

Rajinikanth's upcoming films also include Dharman, directed by Ashwath Marimuthu of Oh My Kadavule and Dragon fame. The upcoming film is produced by Kamal Haasan under his banner Raaj Kamal Films International. It also stars Simran, Raashii Khanna, and Yogi Babu, among others.
