Recently, actor SJ Suryah spoke about his favourite actresses in India. During a conversation with IndiaGlitz, he was asked who he considers 'Nadippu Arakki,' a phrase in Tamil that refers to an actor with raw talent and commanding screen presence, or in other words, a powerhouse performer. In his response, SJ Suryah said, "In recent times, Mamitha Baiju is doing really well. In North, Alia Bhatt."
Speaking of which, Mamitha Baiju recently became only the third actress from India to be part of three back-to-back films with over 250 crore earnings at the box office, joining Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt in the list.
The year 2026 started for Mamitha with a small role in director Vignesh Raja's Kara, opposite Dhanush, which faced criticism for her limited presence. However, she bounced back with critically appreciated performances in commercially successful films such as Bethlehem Kudumba Unit and Vishwanathan and Sons. Her other blockbuster film of 2026 is Jana Nayagan, co-starring Vijay.
Mamitha Baiju will next be seen in films such as Irandu Vaanam, co-starring Vishnu Vishal, and Hello Dear, also featuring her Bethelehem Kudumba Unit and Premalu co-star Sangeeth Prathap.
On the other hand, Alia Bhatt was last seen in a cameo dance appearance in the film Don't Be Shy. Her last major release was Alpha. The actor will next be seen in films such as Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Love and War, co-starring Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal, and Tumbbad 2, also featuring Sohum Shah and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
SJ Suryah, meanwhile, can be seen in the latest Rajinikanth starrer Jailer 2, directed by Nelson. His upcoming releases include Bro Club with Ravi Mohan and Killer.
