Director Karthik Subbaraj's film Dorothy continues its consistent box office run even 13 days after its release. According to data from Sacnilk, the film has earned 12.26 crore from theatres in India after 12 days. Except for the second and third days and the eleventh day of its release, the film has earned around one crore at the domestic box office. It has also garnered mostly positive reviews from critics and a section of the audience.

Despite the critical appreciation, the film has received negative opinions from some viewers for its treatment of an LGBTQ+ angle. Speaking to B4Blaze recently regarding the film, Sananth called the negativity "targeted hatred" and said that one should not pay heed to it. "The emotions coming from the audience... That is the award for me," the actor said regarding viewers' positive response for the film while describing the hatred as 'waste'. He added, "The audience who has watched the film are coming again and again and is spreading positive word of mouth regarding it."

Dorothy tells the story of two friends who grow up in harsh conditions in rural Tamil Nadu, with much violence, caste discrimination and patriarchy around them. When one of them grows up and makes a move as an adult that shocks everyone in the family, the other is sent to chase his friend. The grown-up versions of the two main characters are played by Sananth and Rishikanth in the film. It also stars Keerthy Suresh, Muthukumar, Ramachandran Durairaj, and Soundararaja, among others.

Dorothy has earned much appreciation for Karthik Subbaraj's direction, Ilaiyaraaja's music, and the performances of Sananth and Rishikanth, among others. The film is expected to arrive on Netflix in the near future after its theatrical run.
