Back in 2010, CS Amudhan made his directorial debut with a unique concept in Tamil cinema, a parody film titled Tamizh Padam. With a basic storyline, the filmmaker, along with lead actor Shiva, managed to spoof most commercial film stereotypes and mass hero mannerisms, making it an entertaining blockbuster.
Eight years later, the filmmaker came up with the sequel, Tamizh Padam 2. Shiva returned as the lead alongside Sathish and many more, as the film had spoofed popular Hollywood series like Game of Thrones and had a satirical take on police representation in commercial Tamil films.
Another eight years after its sequel, Tamizh Padam 3, the third film in the CS Amudhan franchise, has officially commenced filming on Thursday. This time, Shiva is mentioned as Intergalactic Superstar instead of his usual moniker, Agila Ulaga Superstar. The poster also hints that this chapter in the franchise will feature Aliens. Athulya Ravi is also part of the film's cast, making her a new addition to the franchise.
The first poster of the third film featured Shiva facing in a suit, facing an alien spaceship. AP International and YNOT Studios are backing the film. S Sashikanth and Chakravarthy Ramachandra are the producers. YNOT Studios also produced the first and second films in the franchise. More details about the film's extended cast and crew are awaited.
Apart from the two Tamizh Padam films, CS Amudhan has also helmed Raththam (2023), starring Vijay Antony in the lead role. An action drama film, it featured Vijay Antony as an intellectual criminal journalist solving a repetitive murder case.
Shiva, on the other hand, had two releases last year: the much-delayed Sumo and director Ram's Paranthu Po. The latter was critically acclaimed and featured him alongside Aju Varghese, Grace Antony, Mithul Ryan and Anjali, among others. For Sumo, Shiva also wrote screenplays and dialogues apart from acting.
