In its third week since its release, Suriya-starrer Karuppu is said to have raked in over Rs 300 crore worldwide.

The film, marking the first collaboration between Suriya and RJ Balaji, opened to mixed to positive reviews upon release. While the hero elevation sequences and Suriya's performance were lauded, the screenplay dip in the second half and convenient writing choices were criticised.

An excerpt from the CE review of the film reads, "Karuppu has a lot going for it, especially a rock-solid Suriya and a much-improved RJ Balaji. However, it ends up a bit all over the place because it moved away from its own tenets, and ends up needing an intervention to remind everyone involved that a God complex helps no one in cinema."

The makers announced on Thursday that the film crossed over Rs 150 crore in Tamil Nadu alone, with the rest of India's collection raising the total to Rs 200 crore.

Karuppu reunites Suriya with Trisha for the first time since 2005's Aaru. The film also stars Indrans, Swasika, Sshivada, Natty, Supreeth Reddy, and Anagha Maya Ravi, among others. Suriya stars as the titular guardian deity, who assumes the form of a lawyer after a devotee in distress pleads for justice when the court inordinately delays hearing his case.
