RJ Balaji's film Karuppu, starring Suriya in the titular role, continues its dream run at the box office. On Wednesday, the film earned 11.96 crore from theatres, according to data from the industry tracker Sacnilk. This is a marginal drop in the Karuppu box office collection, coming down from 14.75 crore on Tuesday. On the whole, the film has minted 175.96 crore (gross) and 105.35 crore (net) at the global box office, according to the tracker.

Reportedly, it has become the highest-grossing film in Suriya's career, breaking the previous record held by Retro. The achievement is noteworthy, especially considering the mostly mixed reviews it has received from critics. Fans have embraced the film, regardless of the criticism.

Earlier, RJ Balaji said at a promotional event that Karuppu is not made for the those on social media who dissect films but is rather for the audience who celebrates such cinema in theatres. The filmmaker apologised for his comments soon afterwards. Clarifying his remarks, the filmmaker-actor said that he only wished the audience to come to theatres with no bias and with an open mind. "In my opinion, once a product is in the market, everybody should talk about it and review it. I was a reviewer once, and only now have I become a filmmaker," RJ Balaji said, reflecting his roots.

Besides Suriya and Balaji, Karuppu stars Indrans, Anagha Maya Ravi, Swasika, Natty, Sshivada, and Supreeth Reddy, among others. Produced by SR Prakash Babu and SR Prabhu under Dream Warrior Pictures, the film has music by Sai Abhyankkar. Audiences have embraced the film's music, especially songs such as 'Verappa,' and this has played a part in the film's success at the box office.
