Suriya-RJ Balaji's Karuppu clears censorship formalities

Karuppu will release in theatres on May 14

The upcoming action entertainer, Karuppu, which is getting a theatrical release on May 14, has cleared the censorship formalities with a U/A certificate. The film starring Suriya is directed by RJ Balaji.

While the plot has not been officially revealed by the makers, the promotional materials of the film suggest that Suriya plays Saravanan, an advocate, who, when he cannot serve justice through legal means, is possessed by the deity Karuppasaami to provide divine justice.

The film features Trisha as the female lead, reuniting her with her Aaru (2005) co-star Suriya. The supporting cast includes Yogi Babu, acclaimed Malayalam actor Indrans, Sshivada, Swasika, famous for Lubber Pandhu, Natty, Supreeth Reddy, and Anagha Maya Ravi.

Karuppu's technical crew features music by Sai Abhyankkar, cinematography by GK Vishnu, editing by Kalaivanan, art direction by Arun Venjaramoodu, and stunt choreography by Vikram Mor. The project also marks a reunion for Suriya with his NGK producers, as well as RJ Balaji with his Sorgavaasal makers — SR Prabhu and SR Prakash Babu of Dream Warrior Pictures.

Suriya, meanwhile, has his next with Venky Atluri, Vishwanath & Sons, opposite Mamitha Baiju. His 47th film, directed by Aavesham filmmaker Jithu Madhavan, also stars Nazriya Fahadh and Naslen.
